Caring for Horse Wounds
This is the time of year that most horses are used and abused. The most common conditions seen are the cuts, bruises, and scrapes that go along with summertime. It's important to remember to look ahead and remove possible sources of injury (these are everywhere). If your horse does get cut, clean the wound and wrap it tightly to stop the bleeding and to keep it clean. If stitches are needed, they should be done within 6 to 12 hours. Make sure your horse is protected from tetanus and administer antibiotics for at least 3 days.
